Jesus, a priest forever in the order of Melchizadek” – Hebrews 5

1. In consideration of our memory verse from last week ….

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (v. 16)

…and in consideration of the “Justice, Mercy, and Grace” comparison sheet and the recent “demand for justice” as of late, how might we summarize justice, mercy, & grace?

1b. Why is mercy a more desirable attribute than justice? How is grace superior to mercy? How have you experienced all three?

Beginning with Hebrews 3:1 and continuing through Hebrews 8:6, there are many references to Jesus Christ as our “high priest”. What was the purpose and role of a priest (high or low) under the Old Covenant/Mosaic Law? How, then, has Jesus become our High Priest? And just who is this mysterious priest “Melchizadek” first seen in Genesis 14: 18-20?

4. These Hebrew Christians had apparently become “dull of hearing” (see v. 11 and Matthew 13:15) which led to a stunting of their growth (v.12-13). How can we avoid dullness of hearing in our Christian lives?
