Opportunities and Adversaries

1 Corinthians 16:9 – For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries. As Paul travelled around as a missionary and as he yielded himself to the Lord more and more, he saw two things. First, he saw that there were many opportunities. Everywhere he looked, he saw the lost. They were ever before him. People who had never heard of Jesus. People who were on their way to an eternity in Hell. He had the answer that they were looking for. He knew that he had the opportunity to reach a multitude of people. The people were there, they just needed someone willing to reach them. Jesus told us the same thing in John 4:35 – Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.  The harvest was ready to be brought in, and Paul saw that as an opportunity. But he also saw another thing. He saw adversaries. Whenever you want to do something great for God, there will be adversaries. People who will criticize your desire, people who will say that it cannot be done. Paul knew that, in fact he said there were many adversaries. But Paul knew that in spite of the adversaries, the door was great. There was great opportunity.  The more adversaries, the more opportunity to show God’s greatness. If we will only be willing.
