God will supply our needs

God will supply our needs

Philippians 4:19 – But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

This verse is part of the letter to the church at Philippi, after Paul had received an offering from them. Paul is reminding them that God will not forget their sacrifice for His servant, but even though they have given sacrificially, God will supply everything they need. I want to notice several things about this verse.

First, God will supply all their needs. It does not promise that God will supply all their wants. There is a growing error in the church that you can desire anything you want, and “claim it” and then God is obligated to give it to you. There are those preachers who will tell you that God wants every Christian to be rich, to have everything they want, that if you see a large house, claim it in Jesus name and God will give you that house. That is not scriptural.

Second, God’s view of their needs may be different that their view of their needs. This is similar to point one. God knows what we NEED, and will supply that. Just because we think we need it, doesn’t mean we NEED it. I may think that I need a new car, but God may say “your current car is fine for your needs”. God determines what we need. We just have to get our desires in line with Him. Look at verse 8 and see the kind of things that we should be looking upon, and our desires will change.

Third, sometimes God will supply a need that we don’t even know we have. Jeremiah 33:3 says – Call unto me, and I will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things WHICH THOU KNOWEST NOT. As I said in point two, God knows our needs, and He will supply them, even if we didn’t know we need them.

We were are Ironwood camp for a couples retreat recently. At a service, they told how the camp had been contacted by a company that used atmospheric balloons for research. They wanted to know if they could launch some balloons from Ironwood’s property. Ironwood showed them a part of the property that was seldom used and they used that to launch balloons. Some time later, during a staff devotion, the director was speaking on God using ravens to feed Elijah. Now the camp, because of COVID, had not been able to hold camps for more than 3 months, Finances were tight. But he was teaching them that God would meet their needs. During the meeting, the mail was delivered. In the mail was an envelope from the company that launched the balloons. The envelope contained a check that met many needs. And the company that launched the balloons??? Raven Aerostar. God will supply your needs, even in an unexpected way. .
